Liverpool in the race to sign £100m star who is "performing fantastically" - reliable journalist

Liverpool are reportedly still “hovering” for the signing of Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers, but a host of other Premier League clubs are also in the mix.

Rogers has enjoyed a highly impressive season for Villa, scoring eight Premier League goals, with Unai Emery making it clear how highly he thinks of him, saying:

“We need the numbers of the players and today and last week Morgan Rogers is performing fantastically, but he has started the season not getting [goalscoring] numbers but playing well. Always doing his task, always with the commitment he’s showing, with the attitude he has, played each match.

“Today he did the same and scored goals, of course. He is the protagonist. I’m so, so happy because he’s a fighter. He’s a good guy, very good guy. His commitment with Aston Villa is massive, and his attitude every day is really fantastic.”

Now, the reliable Jason Burt of The Telegraph [via This Is Anfield] reports that Liverpool are “hovering” for Rogers, although others may be further ahead in the race to sign him.

Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are also mentioned as potential suitors for the attacking midfielder, who is rated at £100m.

Morgan Rogers a superb player – but do Liverpool need him?

There is no doubt that Rogers is a fantastic player who could be an asset for any top team, having put himself strongly in contention to start for England at the 2026 World Cup.

The 23-year-old is battling the likes of Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze in the No.10 role, and on this season’s form, he arguably deserves the nod.

That said, Rogers isn’t necessarily a player that Liverpool desperately need to bring in this summer, with Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai already there in his position.

To spend £100m on another attacking midfield option, when centre-backs, central midfielders and wide attackers need to be looked at instead.

Seeing Rogers join a rival certainly wouldn’t be ideal because he would strengthen whoever he moves to, but this isn’t the time for Liverpool to prioritise a switch for him.
