Celtic-linked star's future becomes clearer amid summer 'verbal agreement'

The 32-year-old will be moving on to pastures new at the end of the season, following a nine-year stint at the Anfield side.

Making nearly 400 appearances in all competitions, there was speculation that a return to boyhood club Celtic could be on the cards for the current Scotland captain, though a recent update from Fabrizio Romano may put those rumours to rest.

In a post on his X account, transfer journalist Romano revealed that the left-back and relegation-threatened Spurs have been in dialogue over a move. In full, the update said, "Tottenham have a verbal agreement to sign Andy Robertson in June 2026, all terms in place.

"Nothing signed/sealed yet, as staying in the Premier League will be a key factor ahead of proceeding.

Last week, Spurs appointed Roberto De Zerbi, who replaced interim manager Igor Tudor after the Croatian's dismal time in charge of the North London club.

Their hopes of staying in the Premier League were hit with a fresh blow on Friday night, as Nuno Espirito Santo's West Ham United defeated Wolves 4-0, plunging Spurs into the relegation zone with just over a month of the season to go.

As for Celtic, Martin O'Neill's side currently has two first-team left-backs fighting it out for the spot in Kieran Tierney and Marcelo Saracci, who is on loan from Boca Juniors.

Last month, it was reported by the latter's agent that the club were in talks with the Uruguayan over a permanent move to Scotland for the 27-year-old this summer.
