Bayern Munich contact Anthony Gordon over summer move – Report

Newcastle United fans are already a bit on edge ahead of the summer transfer window, with David Hopkinson hinting that big players could be sold to raise funds for a rebuild.

The squad is certainly due for an overhaul, but financial restrictions make it impossible to just go ahead and make sweeping changes without having to make sure there’s money coming into the club to cover it. Long gone are the days when a club’s owner could just cover the spend from their own pocket.

Newcastle have some big stars amongst their ranks now, players who could bring in considerable sums of money if marketed properly, but it’s a case of striking the balance between raising money and not setting the squad back in terms of quality. Do three or four good players really replace one world-class player?

Then it’s a question of which ‘big’ player does the club feel they can sacrifice without setting the project back a year? Sandro Tonali seems to be the one that everyone is looking at right now, but Sky Sports Belgium’s Sacha Tavolieri has a different idea.

In a post on X last night, Tavolieri reports that Bayern Munich are keen on signing Anthony Gordon and have already made contact with his people over a potential move.

After being impressed with the impact of Michael Olise, who arrived from Crystal Palace, it’s claimed Gordon is ‘not closing the door’ on a move abroad.

Tavolieri does state, however, that Newcastle have no intention of selling the England international in the summer.

Gordon’s name has been mentioned as one of the big stars who could leave, and there are probably plenty of fans who wouldn’t shed a tear if he were to go.

The England winger’s attitude has been called into question on more than one occasion this season, with many fans questioning if he even wants to be here, so those fans certainly wouldn’t lose any sleep over his sale.

It’s a strange one with Gordon because on his day, he’s outstanding, but those questions didn’t just come out of nowhere. There are times when he just looks like he’d rather be anywhere else.

Still, we don’t see him going to Germany if he does leave, not with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool sniffing around. The latter feels like the most likely move given his childhood allegiances.
