Nico Schlotterbeck’s new Dortmund contract contains a €50-60m release clause, valid from this summer, and which only applies to a select few clubs. Schlotterbeck’s ‘dream clubs’ are FC Bayern and Real Madrid - and it’s almost certain that the release clause applies to them.
As things stand, Bayern are unlikely to make a move for the German international after they extended Dayot Upamecano’s contract. In addition, Max Eberl is not fully convinced of Schlotterbeck’s qualities. The defender waited for concrete offers from top clubs but there were none, that’s why he extended, and left the door open through the release clause.
