Axel Disasi, outstanding since his winter arrival at West Ham United, has actually been overshadowed in recent weeks by his in-form defensive partner Konstantinos Mavropanos.
In the last three Premier League matches, Mavropanos ended his 86-game goal drought in that 1-1 draw with Manchester City, he was ‘exceptional’ at Villa Park, and now the Hammers giant becomes the first since James Collins in 2013 to score a brace from centre-half.
No wonder Axel Disasi is speaking in glowing terms about a man who could conceivably be labelled the most impressive centre-back in the whole of the division right now.
Have you ever seen a turnaroud as dramatic as Dinos? ⚽ ⚽ 🇬🇷

Axel Disasi pays Dinos Mavropanos tribute after West Ham United 4-0 Wolves
“He’s in a great moment,” the Chelsea loanee says about the suddenly-prolific Konstantinos Mavropanos. “I’m very happy for him scoring two goals.
“Playing with him at the back is nice. We speak well to each other. He’s a great guy and he deserves it.”

In addition to his unexpected goalscoring exploits – bulletting home a Jarrod Bowen cross on the stroke of half time before volleying in the fourth to cap a thumping home win – Mavropanos and Disasi have helped Mads Hermansen equal a feat last achieved by Lukasz Fabianski in 2020/21.
Five clean sheets in the Dane’s last ten Premier League outings.

Wolves had their moments – Angel Gomes struck the post and the game was in the balance until Mavropanos struck – but this was another successful night for Hammers centre-backs at both ends of the pitch.
Disasi lets El Hadji Malick Diouf off the hook
“Honestly, we were ready for this important game,” adds Disasi, West Ham recording a 4-0 home victory for the first time since Danny Ings put Nottingham Forest to the sword three years ago.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR, WE’RE COMING FOR YOU 👀
Five things we learned from the 4-0 win 👇
“Today, we are happy and the fans are happy. We needed to win and we did it tonight. I’m very happy because the team deserves it and the fans as well. Now it’s about keeping going this way.
“[Wolves] started the game very well. It was about being patient and waiting for our moment. After the first goal, the game became more open. At the beginning of the second-half, we found some gaps to make the second and third one. This game was about sticking together.
“Six games to go. Now, every match is a mission. The fans know, the team knows, everyone knows our mission. We have to stay together and play like we played tonight to achieve our goals. We have to go step by step.”
Disasi also laughed off a calamitous moment for El Hadji Malick Diouf. The Senegalese left-back nearly turned the ball into his own goal in the second-half.
Wouldn’t it have been so typically West Ham? To score an OG of such bizarre proportions in a game they were cruising?
“He told me he wanted to score for us, but then he got bored so he wanted to score against us!” Disasi laughs. “I say he’s crazy, but no, Malik did a great job today. It’s good to play alongside him.
“He’s like a little brother. We laugh a lot.”
