Report: What Bruno Guimaraes has made clear to Newcastle United

One of the best things that Newcastle United can hope for this summer is that Bruno Guimaraes stays at the club.

Now, players may come and go, but Guimaraes is a hugely important figure at Newcastle United.

Hard choice – but who are you selling if you were in charge? 🤔

Unhelpfully, Manchester United want to sign Guimaraes, but it seems the midfielder has given Newcastle United something of an assurance.

Guimaraes tells Newcastle United he won’t force a move away

That’s because, according to ESPN, the Brazil international has privately told the club that he won’t force a move away this summer.

Clearly, that doesn’t mean he will certainly be staying, just that it seems he won’t be going to any extreme lengths to force a move away from St James’ Park.

Unsurprisingly, Eddie Howe was worried that players might force their way out of Newcastle this summer following the Alexander Isak debacle.

That may well be the case with some of the other players, but it seems Guimaraes won’t be doing that.

Selling Guimaraes is a risk Newcastle United cannot take

A summer of upheaval is likely to take place on Tyneside and while change should be embraced, that does not extend to the idea of Guimaraes leaving.

In fact, Guimaraes is one of the players that Newcastle must build their team around.

He has largely been the embodiment of the PIF era. Brought in at an early stage, he’s been at the heart of everything good that Newcastle have done over the last few years.

With Kieran Trippier also set to leave, the club cannot afford to let so much in the way of leadership walk out the door at the same time.

Keeping Guimaraes, should an offer emerge, would go against all financial logic. Approaching 30, it would usually be a good time to sell up.

Almost every player has their price. Some, however, are priceless – and Guimaraes falls into that very rare category.
