'He saw me' - Mats Wieffer makes Brighton admission after double at Burnley

Reaction from Brighton’s 2-0 Premier League win against Burnley at Turf Moor

Mats Wieffer was in dreamland after he netted a first brace of his career in Brighton’s victory at Burnley.

The midfielder/right back netted at the end of each half as Brighton secured their fifth win from their last six Premier League matches to move them to ninth in the table and well in the mix for European football next season.

"I'm really happy of course,” said Wieffer to the BBC after his two-goal blast.

“A brace, I've never scored a brace in my life, to do it now and also the 2-0 win, that's the most important bit.

“It was a tough afternoon,” admitted the £25m signing from PSV. “We were not at our best, but at this stage of the season points are the most important.

"We are on a good run, we feel good, we play good. In the end, if you win 2-0, nothing to complain about.

"I'm really happy, that's the only thing I can say. We focus a lot on getting the full-backs and loads of people in the box. I joined the attack and Pascal [Gross] saw me.

"The second one I just followed the ball and it dropped onto my foot. It went into the net and I'm really happy."

Europe is a realistic target

Brighton are now just three points off fifth spot. The Seagulls have a slim chance of Champions League football next term but the Europa League and Conference League are realistic targets.

Wieffer added: "If we perform how we're doing like the last couple of weeks then all is on. We shall see."
