Tottenham receive massive Fabrizio Romano update on Liverpool’s Andy Robertson

Tottenham have made their first move to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool on a free transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur have dropped into the bottom three for the first time this season after West Ham’s 4-0 win over Wolves on Friday.

Roberto De Zerbi, the new head coach, faces a tall task of retaining the North London club’s top-flight status. Although the Italian tactician’s primary focus over the coming weeks is to try to remain in the Premier League, ENIC and the recruitment team have started working on potential reinforcements for the summer window.

This has been evidenced by Tottenham’s interest in Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson. As per reliable journalist David Ornstein earlier this week, Spurs are leading the race for Andy Robertson, who is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine trophy-laden years. The likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Napoli have all registered their interest in snapping up the Scotland skipper on a potential free transfer, but Tottenham remain in pole position.

Fabrizio Romano drops big update on Tottenham’s transfer pursuit of Andy Robertson

According to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, Tottenham have a verbal agreement in place to sign Andy Robertson this summer. But the deal will depend on whether they are able to retain their Premier League status.

Robertson was targeted by Tottenham during the January transfer window. Spurs and Liverpool had reached a verbal agreement then for the transfer of the 32-year-old, only for the left-back to make a last-minute U-turn and stay put at Anfield. Also, the Reds were reluctant to entertain the experienced left-back’s exit as they were unable to secure a replacement in time.

The Scotland international joined Liverpool from Hull City in the summer of 2017 and has lifted nine major titles during his stay at Anfield, including the Champions League and two Premier League titles. At 32, he still has a couple of quality years left in him, and Spurs would massively benefit from Robertson’s experience, leadership skills and winning pedigree.

If all goes to plan and Tottenham end up staying in the top flight, Robertson could very well become De Zerbi’s first summer as our gaffer. Credit to our top officials for quickly reaching a verbal agreement with the Liverpool defender’s camp. This also shows that Robertson and his representatives have faith in Tottenham’s project under De Zerbi.

Now it is up to De Zerbi and his boys to perform well in the ‘seven finals’ and get out of jail, starting from Sunday’s trip to Sunderland.
