Four things we learnt as Everton secured late point

Everton left it late on their travels as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall secured a vital point for the Blues.

Both teams came into the game with identical records, and three points shy of a Champions League place.

Brentford started quickly and won a penalty as Jordan Pickford tripped up Kevin Schade, before Igor Thiago dispatched it past the England international.

Beto levelled it up for the Blues and he headed past Caoimhin Kelleher and has now got four goals in five games.

Thiago got his second as Michael Kayode's shot hit the Brazilian international and deflected past Pickford.

However late in added time, Dewsbury-Hall fired home close range to level, and both teams now sit on 47 points.

Here are four things learnt as Everton rescued a late point.

A vital point gained?

The game against Brentford and Liverpool could be seen as two 'six-pointers' and could give Everton a real perspective in how serious their European quest is.

In the second-half Everton struggled to get out of their own half and looked to suffer a low blow as Igor Thiago put the Bees in front with just 14 minutes remaining.

David Moyes's side struggled to create any clear cut chances but responded and in the closing stages found themselves in a couple of dangerous positions. A mix up between Nathan Collins and Caoimhin Kelleher almost led to Everton's leveller.

Dewsbury-Hall's goal could prove to be a vital point during the run in and it keeps Everton in touching distance of a Champions League spot.

An opportunity for Tyrique George?

The introduction of Tyrique George changed Everton's attack and gave an injection of pace which was missing throughout.

George's cameo was bright and during the closing stages majority of Everton's attack came through him.

The Chelsea loanee almost levelled for the Blues as his effort stung the hands of Kelleher and went behind for an Everton corner.

Since joining in January, George has found minutes hard to come by, but has shown how dangerous he can be especially when Everton hit teams on the counter attack. George also had an attempt from distance which went wide following a fast break.

George's only start came in the 2-0 victory over Burnley but was a danger in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, with the 19-year-old's blistering pace, could he be a weapon about to be unleashed by David Moyes?

Crucial goal by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

It was redemption for Everton's goalscoring midfielder as he rescued the Blues a point.

The 27-year-old had a glorious chance to make it 2-1 as he found himself through on goal but turned back and squandered a huge chance to put Everton in front.

However, in added time the midfielder fired in from close range to earn the Toffees a precious point. Jake O'Brien had an attempt on goal which was blocked but fell to the path of Dewsbury-Hall who has now got seven goals this season.

Dewsbury-Hall's quality can't go unnoticed as the former Chelsea man has scored big goals in key moments for Everton.

Goals against Manchester United and Fulham have helped the Blues challenge for Europe and could be a difference maker for David Moyes's men.

Everton's resilience continues

Everton's away form is a key reason why they find themselves in the mix for Europe as they've recorded 25 points on their travels this season.

David Moyes's side again shown their resilience as they came from behind twice to earn a point.

Often the Blues have come up late with late goals. With 15 minutes remaining against Fulham, Everton found a way to win the game through two late goals. Everton also rescued a point in added time against Brighton in late January.

Battling displays against Aston Villa and Newcastle highlight the mental toughness that this Everton side have, and once again proved it again as they left the GTECH Community Stadium with something.
