Former Liverpool ace Fabinho has revealed how he had to ask what language ‘Scouse’ was. The 32-year-old Brazilian, who played for the Reds from 2018 to 2023, said when he first arrived he struggled to understand what fellow players were talking about in the dressing room.
He said it wasn’t just the English language, but the ‘weird’ language spoken by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones, both born-and-bred Liverpudlians. Fabinho - who left Liverpool to play in Saudi Arabia - said at first he thought they were speaking German to each other.
The sportsman - who has played 30 times for his country - said: “When I arrived I knew practically no English, so I started studying.

“Shortly after I arrived, I overheard Curtis Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold. I asked the others ‘What language are these guys speaking? Because that isn’t English’
“They laughed - I would have guessed they were speaking German.” He said he got used to the Scouse accent by the end of his time at the club, adding: “You get used to it and understand more as time goes by.
“It’s an accent as beautiful as it is difficult to understand.”
