Salah returns and Ngumoha starts; Slot ditches his 3-4-2-1
Arne Slot made five changes from the midweek battering at Paris Saint-Germain, as Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones, Mohamed Salah, Ngumoha and Cody Gakpo all came in.
That meant a switch back to a more familiar formation after the abject failure of Slot’s 3-4-2-1 setup three days previous.

Liverpool chief executive Billy Hogan joined Slot pitchside pre-match in a bold message as fans staged protests against the club raising ticket prices from next season.
Ngumoha’s first Anfield goal kickstarts dominant half
With Anfield roaring the players on, Liverpool began with a high intensity and enjoyed the better of the opening stages, including a right-footed blast from Salah which drew a save from Bernd Leno.
Ngumoha was bright on the left flank and, after seeing a penalty shout waved away, he combined with Robertson to set Gakpo up for a low drive just wide of the post.
Fulham largely held their shape and defended while looking to break whenever possible, though Ibrahima Konate dealt well with the threat of Rodrigo Muniz.
Liverpool’s opener came on a counter of their own, with Ngumoha scoring his first Anfield goal in a stunning effort, turning Timothy Castagne inside-out before bending one in at the far post.
It was 2-0 soon after and Salah was the goalscorer, whipping a shot into the bottom corner having been found by Gakpo on the edge of the six-yard box.

Intensity drops but Liverpool hold on for victory
A suspected groin injury forced Jones off at half-time as Ryan Gravenberch came on in his place, while Fulham made two changes as Sasa Lukic and Emile Smith Rowe were sent on to chase a lead.
It resulted in a more open second half with Lukic particularly dangerous, while Gakpo was wasteful in the penalty area including a cross which he allowed to hit his torso as an attack broke down.
Gakpo moved back to the left wing after Ngumoha, Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz made way for Joe Gomez, Alexis Mac Allister and Alexander Isak, and fared no better when Salah fed him for a chance on his favoured right foot.

Liverpool were given a warning when Ryan Sessegnon pulled the ball back and Smith Rowe touched it just wide of Giorgi Mamardashvili‘s post.
Fortunately their increasingly desperate defending was enough to hold onto the two-goal lead, the Reds avoiding another collapse to secure fifth place ahead of Chelsea vs. Man City on Sunday.
