THE RELIEF that flooded through West Ham United supporters at 6.45 pm last night was palpable. Their in-form goal scoring flying Dutchman was fit and back in the starting eleven against Wolves. After struggling to impact games without Crysencio Summerville who’d missed five games, surely the Hammers would get back on the winning trajectory.
As indeed they did – but without Summerville’s now customary ‘showtime’: The diminutive winger put in a shift but didn’t trouble the scorers himself.
A Morale boost for fans and team mates to have Summerville back in the side
According to former Norwich City and Hammers’ striker turned TV pundit Dean Ashton, there’s likely still some trouble ahead for Summerville and Nuno to navigate. Speaking on Stan Sport, Ashton suggested Summerville isn’t match fit yet and has a way to go to feel his way back to 100%:
“Yeah, I don’t know if he’s trusting his body maybe at that point with that injury that he’s had.”
This in response to fellow pundit Clinton Morrison’s judgement: “He’s just coming back from injury. I’m not going to be too critical of him even though he’s very sharp. But once he’s here, no one should be able to catch Summerville.

It was indeed surprising to see Summerville attempt the long distance shot, when he could have run through for a one-on-one with Wolves’s keeper: A couple of months ago he’d have buried it with glee.
Nuno will need to manage his minutes carefully as the season builds to its climax: I still have Summerville scoring the winner in the finale against his former club Leeds to rescue the Hammers and relegate his old side: He’ll need careful management between now and the season ends to bring that about.
