Arne Slot provides update on Curtis Jones’ injury
Arne Slot has provided an early injury update on Curtis Jones following Liverpool FC’s 2–0 win over Fulham FC, with concerns growing ahead of their crucial clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool FC returned to winning ways with a controlled 2–0 victory over Fulham FC at Anfield, easing pressure on Arne Slot just days before a crucial UEFA Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
The result ended a difficult run that had seen Liverpool lose three consecutive matches.
It also restored some belief within the squad at a critical stage of the season, with Champions League qualification still in the balance.
The standout performer was 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who marked his first Anfield start with a goal and an assist.
He opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a composed finish after cutting inside from the right.
Just four minutes later, his involvement continued as Mohamed Salah doubled the lead following a neat attacking move involving Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool controlled large spells of the match, but Fulham remained a threat.
Rodrigo Muniz missed a clear chance in the second half, while Emile Smith Rowe came close with a late volley.
There was, however, a concern for Liverpool during the game as Curtis Jones was forced off with an apparent injury, raising doubts ahead of the midweek European clash.
After the match, Slot addressed the situation surrounding Jones and did not sound optimistic about his availability for the upcoming trip to Paris.
He said to Sky Sports, “Maybe I’m trying to be funny here… but this whole season, so many things have repeated themselves.”
“Every time when something positive happens – someone, somewhere makes sure that it cannot only be a positive, so there must be an injury involved after a good win.”
“He felt a little bit his groin.”
“It wasn’t in the moment; he felt it already for a few minutes.”
“Let’s hope for the best, but I would be surprised that if a player comes off they’re available for Tuesday.”
That update casts immediate doubt over Jones’ involvement in one of Liverpool’s biggest matches of the season.
With the tie against PSG finely poised, any absence in midfield could prove significant.
Slot also took time to praise Ngumoha’s growing impact on the first team, underlining why the youngster was trusted in such an important fixture.
He said, “One of his strengths is dominating the one-v-one.”
“We’ve seen this season that he gets more and more and more playing time.”
“That’s what he deserves because every time he plays, he does really well.
“His influence in the game, like he did today and against Wolves.”
“Today, he even scored a goal which is vital in football because goals matter a lot.”
While the win over Fulham has lifted morale, Jones’ injury now presents a fresh challenge as Liverpool turn their full focus to Europe.
