Arsenal have “been made aware” of Celta Vigo defender linked to Liverpool

Arsenal are among the clubs who have now been informed about a Celta Vigo defender also attracting interest from Liverpool, as Premier League sides track the Spanish full-back ahead of a potential summer move.

Liverpool’s season has shifted sharply after a difficult run of form that saw them lose three consecutive matches without scoring, leaving their recent record reading D-W–L–L–L before Saturday’s response against Fulham.

The 2–0 win at Anfield was more than just three points on the board as it marked the club’s 1,500th league victory at Anfield, a milestone that added a layer of historical weight to what was already a pivotal afternoon.

The performance also handed 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha the spotlight, the teenager scoring a solo goal on his first Anfield start to give the crowd something genuine to celebrate.

Liverpool now turn their attention to Europe, where they must overturn a 2–0 first-leg deficit against PSG in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on Tuesday, a task made harder by a squad stretched thin at the back.

Alisson Becker remains sidelined until May, Curtis Jones is only 50/50 after picking up a knock at half-time against Fulham, and while Alexander Isak has returned to the bench, Conor Bradley and Wataru Endo are both still out.

The emotional backdrop to all of this is significant.

Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson have both confirmed they will leave Anfield at the end of the season, and their impending departures have added a farewell weight to every remaining home game this season.

For Arne Slot, the task of replacing two long-serving, influential players while simultaneously competing for Champions League football through the league has shaped much of the club’s transfer thinking in recent months.

It is within that context that interest from elsewhere in La Liga defender Oscar Mingueza, who has been linked to Liverpool, has quietly intensified.

The club had identified him as a target ahead of the January 2026 window, viewing him as a versatile, possession-comfortable option capable of covering right-back, left-back, and centre-back.

A winter move never materialised, but his free-agent status this summer means the opportunity has not passed, it has simply grown more competitive.

As reported by BBC Sport, “Arsenal have also been made aware of Celta Vigo full-back Oscar Mingueza, who is out of contract at the end of the season.”

Mingueza is 26 years old, a product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, and is currently in the middle of one of his most productive seasons in La Liga, making 26 appearances for Celta Vigo with one goal and four assists to his name.

He ranks in the top ten for chances created among defenders in the division, carries an 84.1% pass accuracy rate, and has completed nine successful crosses from open play, all while contributing 75 defensive actions including 36 tackles and 73 recoveries.

His market value stands at €17.4 million, yet he is expected to walk away from Celta for nothing in June.

Reports sugest that Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all been approached by Mingueza’s representatives, with Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Everton also keeping tabs on the situation for some time.

Arsenal and City are understood to be particularly active, with Mikel Arteta identifying the Spaniard as a squad-depth priority and the club reportedly prepared to offer a significant signing bonus to win the race.

Oscar Mingueza’s future is now set to be one of the early transfer battles of the summer window, and Liverpool can ill afford to let their head start in the chase go to waste.
