Rejoice! We’re able to read some positive media reaction to a Liverpool game for once, following the 2-0 victory over Fulham.
The Reds produced a good performance to see off the Cottagers on Saturday, thanks to goals from Rio Ngumoha and Mohamed Salah.
Here’s how the media dissected the win.
This was much better from Liverpool, as they picked up a big three points

BBC Sport‘s Phil McNulty felt this display had been a long time coming:
“After the game started, a group of fans marched in front of The Kop carrying a large banner emblazoned with the message: ‘No To Ticket Price Increases.’
“It was against this backdrop that Liverpool finally produced something for a fanbase that has watched the champions’ remarkable decline this season to cheer.
“Liverpool still face a mammoth task to overturn a 2-0 deficit against PSG on Tuesday, but at least this win will give Slot’s team a much-needed lift in confidence.”
Harry Bamforth of the Daily Mail assessed an important win for Liverpool and Arne Slot:
“The Liverpool fans have not been a happy bunch of late, being subjected to loss after loss each week.
“But finally, they have seen their side notch up a victory in the Premier League. It feels like ages since the Reds had notched up three points.
“Were they brilliant? Nope. But did they look comfortable for most of the evening? Yes.
“A bit of respite for the under-pressure Arne Slot.”
Samuel Meade of the Mirror was impressed by how Liverpool responded after a tough week:
“Given the Reds had been hammered by Man City a week ago and were then outclassed by PSG in midweek, a game against an upwardly mobile Fulham side had all the hallmarks of a Saturday night that could go very wrong.
“Their form has raised serious questions over the future of Slot, who may well face an inquest come the summer, but he could take control of his own destiny by delivering a Champions League finish, which he’s on course to do.”
The Mail‘s Lewis Steele didn’t go overboard, but could see clear reasons for optimism:
“That was much better from Liverpool. Not perfect but a step in the right direction.
“Better in both boxes, put chances away when they came and limited Fulham to not too much. The goalscorers top but some other big performances.”
It was impossible not to give Ngumoha a special mention

Andy Hunter of the Guardian said the teenager changed the game on a record-breaking day:
“Ngumoha not only brought a drab game to life, but created a slice of history in becoming Liverpool’s youngest league goalscorer at Anfield at the age of 17 years and 225 days.
“He took a 14-year record that had belonged to Raheem Sterling.”
The Athletic‘s Gregg Evans was another who lauded Ngumoha, talking up a start against Paris Saint-Germain:
“Just when Anfield needed a moment of star quality, up popped 17-year-old Ngumoha.
“The atmosphere was so flat that even the away supporters were mocking the lack of noise with chants of, ‘Sssshhhh’, but all that changed on 36 minutes when the teenager stepped up to shine.
“You wonder whether his youthful exuberance will be needed on Tuesday against PSG. After a performance like this, starting him again should not be out of the question.”
"It's a good feeling and a great feeling…"

The Times‘ Paul Joyce believes Liverpool have a new hero, coming at a good time ahead of two legends departing:
“With every passing week a different legend, whether it is Mohamed Salah or Andrew Robertson, appears to be confirming the end of an era at Liverpool.
“The consolation here was that at least one member of the next generation stood up to offer promise for the future.
“A flurry of stepovers and the fearlessness of youth allowed Rio Ngumoha to pep the belief of those around him just when they needed it and inspire Liverpool to a first Premier League victory since late February.”
