Journalist: Everton to miss out as target prepares to choose Manchester United or Chelsea

Everton look set to miss out on the signing of Marco Senesi from Bournemouth barring a surprising, late development.

The Toffees are monitoring the Argentine as he prepares to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season, with David Moyes and The Friedkin Group hunting for a new centre-back.

However, an update from Matteo Moretto strongly suggests Everton are going to have to look elsewhere.

Marco Senesi likely to snub Everton as Argentina international “about to choose” Manchester United or Chelsea

The respected journalist believes Marco Senesi is “about to choose” his next club after winning the Player of the Match award in Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

Moretto writes that the choice is between Manchester United and Chelsea, with other sides described as “further away” in the battle for his signature.

Tottenham are also named, although considering the north Londoners are currently in the relegation zone with seven games remaining, the Argentina international is surely not going to opt for Spurs.

Moretto posted on X (previously known as Twitter): “Marcos Senesi is about to choose his next team. His agents are in close contact with Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United. The rest of the teams are much further away.”

Michael Keane sees his own contract expire at the end of the season, and given the fact he turns 34 next season, signing the 28-year-old Senesi seemed to be a cheap way to replace the England international with a younger option.

James Tarkowski – who disappointed against Brentford – also turns 34 next season, so Everton could do with a fresher face in that department.

Does Michael Keane deserve a new contract at Everton? 😬

He is currently set to become a free agent in the summer… 👋

The Friedkin Group may have to return to the drawing board and discuss an alternative to Senesi, however, as the Bournemouth No.5 holds talks over a move to either Manchester United or Chelsea.
