Fuka Nagano started and Risa Shimizu came on as a substitute as Japan lost 2-1 to the USA in a friendly.

The Liverpool FC Women duo each featured in Saturday's game, the first of an April triple-header of friendlies between the two nations.

Nagano played for an hour in San Jose, while Shimizu appeared as a late substitute.

Japan and the USA meet again in Seattle on Tuesday.
