Arne Slot confirms Alisson will miss PSG clash

Arne Slot has confirmed that Liverpool shotstopper Alisson Becker is out of Liverpool’s crucial Champions League second leg against PSG.

Liverpool return to Anfield with a clear objective, but the task is steep and the margin for error is slim.

The Champions League, Europe’s premier competition, leaves no room for slow starts, and the damage from the first leg in Paris still lingers.

The 2–0 defeat to PSG at the Parc des Princes exposed several issues in Liverpool’s performance.

The French side controlled the early stages, with 81% possession in the opening 15 minutes, and never allowed Liverpool to settle.

Désiré Doué opened the scoring in the 11th minute, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added a second late on after cutting through the defence.

PSG finished with 16 shots, seven on target, compared to Liverpool’s five attempts and just one on target.

That result left Liverpool needing a strong response, and the 2–0 win over Fulham offered a timely boost.

The performance was more controlled, and the result helped steady the mood after a difficult run that included a heavy FA Cup defeat and inconsistent league form.

The win also kept Liverpool in the race for a Champions League place domestically, sitting fifth with 52 points.

However, the European challenge remains the priority, and overturning a two-goal deficit against a side as sharp as PSG will require precision, control, and belief.

Liverpool’s preparations have now taken a hit, with Arne Slot confirming that Alisson will not be available for the second leg.

“Tuesday I don’t expect him. He’s not training with the team yet,” Slot said via Hayters TV.

“But he’s working very hard on his recovery, so we hope to have him back in the near future. But he doesn’t train with the team yet, so he will not be performing Tuesday.”

That absence is significant, as Alisson’s presence often brings calm and structure to Liverpool’s play, especially in high-pressure European ties.

There is also concern over Curtis Jones, who was forced off against Fulham.

Slot explained the situation clearly. “He felt a little bit his groin,” he said.

“It wasn’t the moment – he felt it already for a few minutes.”

He added, “So, let’s hope for the best but I would be surprised if a player who comes off that he’s available for Tuesday.”

Liverpool must now adjust quickly, as they prepare for a defining night at Anfield without two key players.
