Tottenham Hotspur were denied a penalty during the first half of their clash against Sunderland. Robert Jones initially pointed to the spot when Randal Kolo Muani collided with Omar Alderete and Luke O'Nien inside the box.
Following a review of the incident at Stockley Park by the Video Assistant Referee, James Bell, and his assistant, Nicholas Hopton, the on-field referee was sent to the pitchside monitor for a second look. Jones overturned the original call, denying the Lilywhites their first spot-kick of the Premier League season.
Alderete was adjudged to have not fouled Kolo Muani. Announcing the decision to supporters at the Stadium of Light, the on-field referee said: "After review, home 15 clearly plays the ball first, before any subsequent contact. Final decision is a drop ball to the goalkeeper. No penalty."
