Liverpool fans can expect another summer of lavish spending, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.

The reliable journalist claims that up to four major signings could be brought in over the coming months:

“The net spend is about £150m, even though last summer was really high, and I think they plan to continue investing because they see this as a developing project and squad.”

“There are more signings, no doubt on the way. They feel there are 3-4 first-team players that are needed for them to be really competitive again. We know that a wide player, because of Salah’s departure and also how Diaz wasn’t replaced, will also be high on the agenda.”

Which positions could Liverpool strengthen?

Ornstein mentions the obvious area to be reinforced – the wings, but replacements in other key roles will be needed.

Andy Robertson has officially announced that he will leave the Reds when his contract expires at the end of the season, so a left-back to provide cover for Milos Kerkez is a necessity.

While a centre-back has already been recruited, with Jeremy Jacquet arriving from Rennes, a second defender may be needed if Ibrahima Konate’s contract is not renewed. A central midfielder could also be on the agenda.

Who are the top targets for the summer transfer window?

RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande does appear to be a primary candidate, but the likes of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche have been mentioned as other possible options for the front line.

At centre-back, Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic has been linked with a switch to Anfield by the German media, while in midfield, Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga and Wolves’ Joao Gomes are said to be on the Merseyside club’s shortlist.
