The pressure is once again mounting on Eddie Howe after another Premier League defeat despite taking the lead.
Dropping points from winning positions has become a trademark of Newcastle United this season, with 25 points now dropped after taking the lead.
What makes it worse is that the killer blows always seem to land late in the game, so we don’t have any time to do anything about them. It’s a huge concern that we can’t seem to focus for over 90 minutes, and an even bigger worry that the team still seems to think that one goal will win the game.
Eddie Howe has addressed the issue before, saying that he can’t put a finger on what the issue is, but his post-match comments after the defeat to Crystal Palace have opened our eyes somewhat.
Speaking to NUFC TV after the game, Eddie Howe said that it was ‘uncharacteristic’ for Newcastle to throw away the lead. That’s a concern.
If he thinks it’s out of character when it has happened so many times this season, we have found our problem – it’s delusion!
“Yeah, really disappointing again from us. We worked so hard to get into a positive position, played pretty well in that first half, leading the game, and there was a lot of that performance I was pleased with.
“Of course, at the end of the game, we don’t defend well enough for that last 20 minutes, albeit I don’t think they had a load of chances.
”It was uncharacteristic of us again, going on past history to defend like that. So yeah, we’re desperately disappointed.”

We’re sorry, but that’s just not a good enough answer. After three weeks with no game, time to work on the training pitch and coming up against a side who played on Thursday and rested several of their big players, performing the way we did today is absolutely unacceptable.
The general consensus in the office is that none of us wants Eddie Howe gone, but none of us can defend what happened today, and that interview hasn’t helped.
It’s about time that Howe came out and was just honest with us. They weren’t good enough, there was a lack of desire and effort and a lack of ideas throughout the club right now.
We still back him to drive us forward next season, as long as the board backs him properly in the summer, but this campaign is starting to feel like a write-off.
