Crystal Palace have expressed an interest in signing Fulham star Harry Wilson, with the winger set to exit Craven Cottage on a free transfer this summer.
Palace eyeing new forward despite Mateta resurgence
Palace are in a very strong position to reach the semi-final of the Europa Conference League, having defeated Fiorentina 3-0 at Selhurst Park in the first leg of the quarter-final, on a night where Jean-Philippe Mateta was back to his best.
The striker received plaudits for his performance against the Italian side, after netting the first goal in the emphatic victory, with Oliver Glasner still on course to go out on a high by winning another trophy in his final season.
However, Mateta came close to joining AC Milan in the January transfer window, and despite bagging a brace against Newcastle United, the Frenchman's future is still in doubt, which means whoever replaces Glasner may need to strengthen his attacking options in the summer transfer window.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have now soared into the race for Fulham star Harry Wilson, alongside Everton and Aston Villa, with the latter club believed to be leading the race for his signature.
The £55k-a-week winger is set to leave Fulham on a free transfer in the summer, at which point his contract is set to expire, and he is attracting plenty of interest from within the Premier League, with Liverpool also being named as potential suitors.
Fulham's Harry Wilson reacts on the bench after he is substituted
Should the Eagles manage to go all the way in the Conference League, they will be playing Europa League football next season, which means Selhurst Park could be an attractive destination this summer, and Wilson is showing signs he deserves to be playing in Europe.
Journalist Ian Mitchelmore praised the 29-year-old after a "simply mesmerising" performance in Wales' 7-1 thrashing of North Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier back in November of last year.
The Wales star has also reached the ten-goal mark in the Premier League, finding the net more times than any Crystal Palace player in the top flight, and his stoppage-time winner against Brighton was one of the best of the bunch.
Palace planning to strengthen in several areas this summer
Not only are Palace planning to sign a new winger, but they have also set out to bring in a new defender, with Real Betis willing to entertain offers for Brazilian centre-back Natan.
With Adam Wharton now set to leave, the Eagles may need to bring in a new central midfielder too, and Toulouse star Cristian Casseres Jr. could be brought in as a replacement.
