West Ham star says he knows he's not done enough this season

West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen believes he hasn’t done “enough” to help the team this season.

It is a measure of the man that he of all people believes he could have done more for the team.

Though an admirable stance to take, Bowen is the last person who should be thinking that.

Where does the skipper rank among our biggest Premier League LEGENDS?

Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United celebrates opening the scoring during the Premier League match between Chelsea and West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on January 31, 2026 in London, England.

While he has attracted criticism at times, there is no doubt that Bowen has been West Ham’s best player this season.

All 16 of his goal contributions this season have come when his side were in the relegation zone. It is difficult to think of much more he could be doing.

Still, the skipper himself does not think that is the case.

Bowen says he loves West Ham but could be doing more

The forward recorded two more assists as West Ham beat Wolves 4-0 to send a signal of intent to the rest of their relegation rivals.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, however, Bowen said: “I have such a big love for this club. It hurts to be in the position we are in.

“I know I haven’t done enough, individually, to get us out of it. Each week it is about trying to play my A-game, trying to score and trying to get assists. I want to contribute every single week. I want to get us out of this.”

The England international has been slated at times this season, and it’s worth noting that he hasn’t scored in the Premier League since late January. He has, however, provided six assists during that time.

Though Bowen is clearly not exempt from criticism, the caveat that he has so often been the man to bail the team out of so many problems does always need to be taken into account.

Bowen apologised for missing a penalty against Leeds, which again was unnecessary – in the nicest possible way.

He cannot be expected to do everything alone and part of West Ham’s recent success is down to the fact he isn’t.

The likes of Crysencio Summerville, Taty Castellanos, Mateus Fernandes and Pablo Felipe have stepped up in an attacking sense too.

Interestingly, Hammers News understands that West Ham insiders think that Bowen is getting back to his best.

If he does, then his worries about his own form won’t last much longer.
