Slot's comments on LFC transfer model for the summer says a lot about Liverpool direction

Arne Slot is reportedly preparing for a significant summer rebuild at Liverpool, with major decisions expected regarding senior figures, including Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.

The pair arrived in 2017 and have been critical to the modern era of success at Anfield. It’s impossible to imagine the success Liverpool have enjoyed over the last nine years without them.

However, more change will come this summer following last summer’s £460m spend on new signings.

Arne Slot has confirmed that he is part of recruitment plans for the summer ahead, hinting at what many reports have stated: Slot will remain in charge over the summer.

When asked by a journalist if he’s heavily involved in planning for this summer transfer window, Slot replied: “Yes, I am. And I know why you ask this question.”

Liverpool’s transfer policy as Slot spearheads his third summer transfer window

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool are planning a busy transfer window as they look to refresh key areas of the squad ahead of next season.

Speaking about Liverpool’s transfer policy before Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League, Slot discussed FSG’s recruitment model.

“Our model is completely clear, that is not to say we cannot make an exception because the club signed Wataru Endo and maybe Federico Chiesa was a little bit above the age we usually sign,” he said.

“I don’t think that if this club has been successful the way we are having, we are going to change our model completely after a season that has not been so great. Especially because in the 16 years they are here, they have not won the league 16 times.

“There were more seasons where results were not as expected but they have always kept the same model which I signed for, which (Liverpool sporting director) Richard (Hughes) signed for and which we are all aligned for.”

Salah and Robertson departures to shape transfer plans

Meanwhile, the confirmed summer exits of Salah and Robertson reveal some portion of Liverpool’s plans for the summer. At least one new wide attacker will be signed, while Liverpool will once again be in the market for a new left-back after signing Milos Kerkez last summer.

Salah is to depart for free one year before his contract expires, and the Express report indicates that replacing his goals and influence will be one of the club’s primary objectives. Easier said than done.

Robertson’s contract expires this summer, and he will also leave for free.

Liverpool would have to spend sums similar to the £116m spent on Wirtz and the £125m on Isak to replace Salah with a player of similar quality, like Michael Olise. It will be curious to see how Liverpool go about replacing such a legendary figure.
