Leeds United face Manchester United tonight knowing they’ll stay 15th in the table regardless of the result at Old Trafford, following Sunderland’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light pushed Tottenham into the bottom three and further boosted Leeds’ chances of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Leeds are winless in six league games, but the inconsistent performances of teams below them, especially Spurs, have allowed Daniel Farke’s men to avoid the pressure of being in the drop zone.

Tottenham will host Leeds at home next month in a pivotal game, and it seems they have suffered another major injury to a key star, which could further deepen the crisis at Spurs.

Leeds handed an advantage ahead of facing Tottenham

Tottenham’s defeat at Sunderland was damaging in more than one way. It pushed them into the relegation, but it also may have taken out another influential player for the season.

Spurs have a damaging injury list, which has not helped their cause this season, and club captain Christian Romero could join that list.

He hobbled off the pitch in tears after picking up an injury in a clash with his own goalkeeper, and his reaction showed that it could be a serious injury.

If the defender gets ruled out of the last six Premier League games of the season, it would inflict further damage to a Spurs side who look more or less shot at the moment.

Tottenham have not won a league game since the turn of the year, and even new manager Roberto De Zerbi failed to inspire them on Sunday.

They are not winning games or scoring goals, and if their most influential defender misses the rest of the season, Spurs could do the unthinkable and get relegated.

The Whites need to take charge of the race now

Leeds’ winless run of six league games has failed to push them into the drop zone because of the inconsistency of the sides below them.

Forest and West Ham picked up points this weekend. However, Tottenham’s defeat at Sunderland means Leeds will remain 15th in the table regardless of the result at Old Trafford.

However, it’s time the Whites take charge of the survival race and get a couple of wins in the last seven games that could guarantee them Premier League safety.

A win at Old Trafford could be difficult, but Leeds have games against Wolves, Burnley and Tottenham during the run-in.

Wolves and Burnley are doomed to go down, and Leeds should get a result against a Romero-less Tottenham side, who have been dire at home all season.
