The Germany midfielder played a senior role in the 2-0 win at Burnley which continues the Seagulls’ good run.
It was a repeat of the scoreline against the Clarets at the Amex when Gross made his second ‘debut’ for the club after his New Year’s Day return from Borussia Dortmund.
Albion made Gross's return a priority for an otherwise quiet January transfer window and it has paid off.
He pulled the ball back for Mats Wieffer to score the first goal of his Turf Moor double.
And he played a mature leadership role which was made more important by the absence of James Milner and Lewis Dunk.
Asked specifically about Gross’s role, head coach Hurzeler said: “He is not only a great player, he is a great connector within the team, he is a great personality, a great leader, and he has the skill to make others better.
“He makes them better by having a really open mind to everyone. By listening to everyone. By being a role model by performance.
“In every training session, he’s there. In every game, he’s there and tries to lead.
“In every game. He tries to take responsibility.
“Therefore it is a pleasure to work with him.
“One of his biggest skills for me is not only he has quality but players around him get better if he is on the pitch.
“That is something which is quite impressive.”
Gross has been ever present in 2026 for the Seagulls, during which their league record shows six wins, three draws and four defeats.
He is one of eight players who have started all five of the victories since late February.
