Liverpool trail PSG 2-0 on aggregate ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg.
Paris Saint-Germain are set for a boost ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool.
The Reds are aiming to complete the latest European miracle in the club’s history when they welcome PSG to Anfield on Tuesday night. Liverpool trail 2-0 on aggregate after a comprehensive defeat in the French capital last week.
PSG are the current Champions League holders and regarded as the best team on the continent by many. Given Liverpool’s inconsistencies this season, they will have to produce a sensational performance to turn the tie around.
Luis Enrique’s side’s biggest strength lies in their attack. Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were on target for PSG in the first leg, while Ousmane Dembele - who won last year’s Ballon d’Or - spurned a golden chance.
And for the second showdown on Merseyside, the Parisians will be boosted by the return of Bradley Barcola. The winger did train ahead of their opening encounter against Liverpool, having been troubled by ankle ligament damage. Barcola was not risked by PSG, though, and given an extra week to prepare. As a result, the France international is set to be part of Enrique’s travelling party and will likely be on the bench, per L’Équipe. Barcola has scored 12 goals and recorded six assists in 38 appearances this season.
PSG have been afforded another boost by the fact that their fixture against Ligue 1 title rivals RC Lens was suspended at the weekend. Liverpool, meanwhile, earned a 2-0 win over Fulham in the Premier League.
However, the Reds lost Curtis Jones to a groin injury and he is unlikely to be involved against PSG. "He felt a little bit in his groin,” said head coach Arne Slot . “It wasn't in the moment, he felt it already for a few minutes. Let's hope for the best but I would be surprised if a player comes off that he would be available for Tuesday. Welcome to our season. Every time after a win or something good happens, there is always an injury following it up."
Liverpool No.1 goalkeeper Alisson Becker will remain unavailable, having yet to return to training. "Tuesday I don't expect him. He's not training with the team yet," said Slot.
"But he's working very hard on his recovery, so we hope to have him back in the near future. But he doesn't train with the team yet, so he will not be performing [on] Tuesday."
