Jordan Pickford responds to suggestion he should leave Everton for a 'bigger club'

Jordan Pickford has been Everton’s most consistent performer pretty much since he joined in the summer of 2017.

That’s led to many questioning whether he should move on to a higher level, especially during Everton’s dark period.

Back in October, ITV commentator Sam Matterface infamously questioned why Jordan Pickford wasn’t playing for a ‘bigger club.’

Now, the Toffees shot-stopper has hit back at those comments in an interview with the Liverpool Echo.

Jordan Pickford says Europe will rubbish the suggestion he should leave Everton

Pickford has explained that Everton qualifying for Europe should squash the media tipping him to leave for a so-called ‘bigger club’.

“I’m at a great club,” the 32-year-old stated.

“If we get Europe this year, those questions will be squashed. Everton’s been so good to me, and I’ve been so good to Everton, we’ve got a great relationship. I love the fans, the fanbase is quality.

“The club’s great. Everyone wants to be playing Champions League football and in finals, there’s no question about that, but why can’t we be pushing up the table?

“It might not be Champions League, it might not be Europa League, it might be Conference League but as long as we get into Europe and get a smell of it, that’s where the club should be at.”

Everton currently sit level with Brentford in seventh place, and there is an outside chance of finishing in the top five, which would qualify them for the Champions League.

They’ll have to beat Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium next week for that to be a more realistic aim.
