A rare 24-day mid-season hiatus is at an end, with Manchester United set to take on Leeds at Old Trafford.

United’s expected XI

Goalkeeper: Senne Lammens

Right-back: Noussair Mazraoui (selected ahead of Diogo Dalot who missed the training camp in Ireland due to illness)

Left-back: Luke Shaw

Centre-backs:Lisandro Martinez and Leny Yoro (Ayden Heaven misses out as Martinez returns, while Harry Maguire is suspended)

Midfield: Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes

Left wing: Matheus Cunha

Right wing: Amad

Centre-forward: Bryan Mbeumo

While there is a strong argument to start Benjamin Sesko in this fixture, Michael Carrick has generally preferred Bryan Mbeumo and we expect the same once again.

United will also have Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee as attacking options from the bench. It’s also possible that Shea Lacey makes the squad, after he was kept out of the under-21s game on Friday night.

Should Benjamin Sesko START vs Leeds? If he does…. who should drop to the bench?

Manchester United’s opportunity

Last week Michael Carrick and his coaching staff took the Manchester United players on a training camp to Ireland. It was a chance for the squad to get away and bond off the pitch.

Now they can put some of the hard work on the training ground into practice, and have a real opportunity.

The way results went at the weekend, United are still in third place despite not playing.

It means the pressure is off, and Carrick’s side can extend the advantage in the battle for Champions League places.

And for added motivation, it would really drive rivals Leeds right into the relegation mix.
