Sunderland sporting director Florent Ghisolfi on Marseille shortlist ahead of summer window –…

Florent Ghisolfi is reportedly attracting attention as Sunderland gears up for a crucial summer transfer window

Sunderland sporting director Florent Ghisolfi is attracting interest from France despite only recently taking up his role at the Stadium of Light, according to reports.

The Frenchman, who joined the Black Cats in July 2025 after leaving AS Roma, has played a key role in shaping the club’s recruitment strategy alongside head coach Régis Le Bris during a promising return to the Premier League.

Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend saw them climb into 10th place in the table, just two points behind sixth-placed Chelsea, underlining the progress made both on and off the pitch this season. According to French outlet La Provence, Ghisolfi is among the candidates being considered by Marseille as they search for a new sporting director following changes at board level.

The report claims the Ligue 1 club, now led by president Stéphane Richard, have enlisted an external agency to identify potential targets, with Ghisolfi said to have “ticked many boxes” due to his experience in both French and European football. Ghisolfi previously held roles at Lorient, Lens and Nice before his move to Roma, building a strong reputation for recruitment and squad building.

However, despite the reported interest, there is no indication that Ghisolfi is looking to leave Sunderland at this stage. The 39-year-old has only just begun his role on Wearside and is thought to be fully committed to the club’s long-term project, with a major focus already placed on the upcoming summer transfer window.

Working closely with Le Bris, Ghisolfi is expected to play a central role in strengthening the squad as Sunderland look to build on their current campaign and further establish themselves at Premier League level. With the season entering its final stages and European qualification still a possibility, maintaining stability behind the scenes is seen as crucial.

Sunderland are chasing a potentially historic end to the season, with European qualification now a genuine prospect. The club have only played in Europe once, following their 1973 FA Cup win, and have finished in the top 10 of the top flight just four times in 70 years, underlining the scale of the opportunity.
