Gary Lineker makes bold Leeds claim

Leeds United return to action later this evening with a trip to Old Trafford, where they take on Manchester United in a high-profile Premier League clash.

The Whites are without a win in their last six league outings, though they’ve still managed to stay clear of immediate danger in the table.

Nottingham Forest and West Ham,both below Leeds, picked up points in the previous round of fixtures, but it won’t impact Leeds’ position tonight, as they are guaranteed to remain 15th regardless of the result.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur dropped into the relegation zone following their defeat to Sunderland on Sunday. Spurs have now lost seven of their last eight league matches, and the situation looks increasingly bleak, with Gary Lineker not feeling too hopeful about his former team.

Gary Lineker drops a big prediction on Leeds United

Leeds are in the FA Cup semi-final and are three points clear of the relegation zone ahead of facing Manchester United at Old Trafford today.

They will travel to Tottenham next month, which could end up deciding both teams’ fate in the survival race, and Lineker seems more hopeful about Leeds.

He has insisted that Leeds are within touching distance of securing survival in the Premier League and have some momentum behind them despite the six-game winless streak.

The former striker is far more worried about Tottenham in the relegation dogfight ahead of the last six games of the season.

Lineker said on the Rest Is Football podcast while previewing the Tottenham vs Leeds game next month: “Leeds are fighting for their lives as well. That’s a massive game, isn’t it?

“It’s not easy for any of these teams now, and they’re all fighting, but West Ham look like they’ve got a bit of form and belief and momentum, and we’ve talked about that.

“Leeds are kind of drawing their way to safety, almost, and Forest are fighting as well. I’m worried as a former Spurs man.”

Leeds still need a result soon

Leeds’ run of six league games without a win hasn’t pulled them into the relegation zone, mainly because the sides below them have been just as inconsistent.

Although Nottingham Forest and West Hamboth collected points over the weekend, Tottenham’sdefeat at Sunderland ensures Leeds will remain 15th no matter the result at Old Trafford.

Even so, the responsibility now falls on the Whites to take charge of their survival bid. A couple of wins from their final seven matches should be enough to keep them in the Premier League.

A result at Old Trafford will be tough to come by, but Leeds do have more favourable fixtures ahead, including games against Wolves, Burnley and Spurs.

Wolves and Burnley look set for the drop, while Leeds will also back themselves against a Tottenham side without Cristian Romero, especially considering how poor Spurs have been at home this season.
