'Without a doubt': Alan Shearer names the conversation Everton boss David Moyes is surely now a …

Everton are on the cusp of European football, and Alan Shearer has again raved over David Moyes and the job he’s done.

The Toffees find themselves in eighth place with just six games to go, and are right in the thick of the battle for European football.

Moyes’ current deal expires next year… 🤔

The table is very tight after the latest round of fixtures, with just six points between sixth and 14th.

Most Evertonians would have been extremely happy with this position at the start of the season.

We are still in The Friedkin Group’s first full season as owners, and the first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

So it was expected that this transitional period perhaps would have ruled out any kind of European push.

But Moyes has worked his magic, and Alan Shearer believes he has to be in the conversation for Manager of the Season.

It’s touch and go whether Everton will play in a European competition next season, but to be in the mix at this stage is ideal.

Everton have some tricky fixtures left, including the trips to London and a Merseyside Derby, but fans are optimistic that Moyes and all his experience can get the job.

After the latest game with Brentford, who are having a similarly impressive season under Keith Andrews, Alan Shearer gave Moyes his flowers on the latest Rest is Football podcast.

Suggesting a sixth-placed finish could help him win, he said: “Both managers (Moyes and Andrews) have a really credible shout of being Manager of the Season.

“If they were to get into sixth, it would be an unbelievable achievement from Everton or Brentford, because no one could have predicted what those two clubs would do. They’re having a brilliant season.

“Two managers who will without doubt deserve a shout when the Manager of the Year comes in, because of what they’re doing and the football they’re playing.

“Incredible. Absolutely outstanding, both of them.”

Everton and Brentford have undoubtedly both overperformed this season, and Moyes and Andrews have done excellent jobs.

Looking at the league table, they both definitely deserve to be in the conversation for Manager of the Season at the moment, and stand a good chance to win.

But only one can, and it might well hinge on which club finishes higher.

If Moyes can pip Andrews and get Everton into the Europa League, then that would surely boost his chances of winning.

Or Everton getting into the Conference League with Brentford finishing lower than the Toffees may also swing it in the Scot’s favour.

But of course, there are several other clubs looking at those European places right now.

Any one of the likes of Andoni Iraola, Fabian Hurzeler, Marco Silva or Regis Le Bris could take home the award if they get European football.
