‘You’re the manager!’ - Alan Pardew sends Eddie Howe grim warning on future at Newcastle United

The pressure continues to mount on Eddie Howe after Newcastle United capitulated against Crystal Palace.

Alan Pardew has warned Eddie Howe to brace himself for a wave of negativity after Newcastle United’s latest Premier League surrender.

Reflecting on his own time in the St James’ Park hot seat, Pardew highlighted how the local media and supporters will be ramping up the pressure on the manager. Another dismal afternoon saw the Magpies blow another 1-0 lead to crumble against Crystal Palace.

Jean-Philippe Mateta came off the bench to bag a brace - plunging Newcastle into 14th and facing an uphill task for European qualification. A section of the travelling away support booed Howe and the players at the full-time whistle.

Alan Pardew sends Eddie Howe message

Speaking to talkSPORT, former Toon boss Pardew backed Howe while giving him some words of advice to tackle the increased scrutiny. The 64-year-old noted the mitigating factors behind Newcastle’s poor campaign - but accepted he must bear the responsibility as manager.

“Newcastle took the lead and lost,” Pardew said. “One of the things about being manager in Newcastle is that the result - and that fact that they've turned over a lead again - will be absolutely scrutinised for the finest detail. The local radio, the local press up there and (there will be) nowhere for Eddie to go. He's got six games left. He’s just got to survive them this year because it's been a really tough campaign.

“Europe has knocked them for six, they're right down the bottom of the league where they shouldn't be, so he's going to be under some severe pressure up there. If I were him, and I know Eddie well, just keep your head down, work hard and try and try and get as many wins as I can in those last six games because you do know that your door might get rattled.”

“Eddie Howe has been a great manager. I think there are some real problems at Newcastle. They've got themselves in a tornado of problems and it's all spiralling downwards. From the sale of Isak and the cloud that hung over him, the big fella from Germany, Woltemade, he hasn't really produced, the European campaign with injuries etc... it's just been a really difficult season.

“A lot of Newcastle fans will be saying they'll be looking for change and it's very difficult to pin that on Eddie. But ultimately, you're the manager, you have to take it.”

Alan Pardew concern over Sandro Tonali

On potential outgoings, Pardew believes Newcastle fans should fear the worst over Sandro Tonali. He added: “Tonali is probably the number one central midfield player on everyone's hit list who you could see as foreseeably available.

“Guimaraes, of course, is an outstanding talent. So I would suggest those are the two players you're looking at thinking they might be going in the summer.

“I think he could fit in at Liverpool I think I think he could fit in anywhere really um I think when Silva goes I think he would be a decent replacement for him as like a number eight for Manchester City. He’s got enough suitors.”
