Leeds chiefs charge into race for "amazing" 13-goal star who's a national hero

Leeds United are eyeing a summer move for Hoffenheim striker Haris Tabakovic, with the Bundesliga side now willing to sanction a transfer for a bargain fee.

Leeds eyeing new centre-forward ahead of Man Utd clash

Leeds are gearing up for their first Premier League game since March 21st, with a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United penciled in for Monday night, and Daniel Farke will be hoping Dominic Calvert-Lewin can continue his fine goalscoring form.

The 29-year-old bagged his 11th goal of the season in the FA Cup triumph against West Ham United last time out, and the manager is hoping the victory at the London Stadium serves as a platform for his side to push on towards Premier League survival.

Although they will have their work cut out against United, with Michael Carrick overseeing a remarkable turnaround since his arrival, the Whites have an opportunity to create some real breathing room in the relegation battle, as they would move six points clear of the bottom three with a win.

However, if Leeds are going to push on and climb further up the table next season, they may need to strengthen further this summer, and they have now soared into the race for Hoffenheim striker Haris Tabakovic, who has spent the current campaign on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Haris Tabakovic celebrates scoring a penalty during the penalty shootout

That is according to a report from Rheinische Post (via Sport Witness), which states the Premier League side are battling the likes of Lille and Wolfsburg for Tabakovic's signature, off the back of his impressive performances in Germany this season.

The 31-year-old has been outscoring Calvert-Lewin, having netted 13 goals in all competitions, and he has caught the eye for national side Bosnia and Herzegovina too, being heralded as a national hero after scoring in the World Cup qualification penalty shootout against Italy.

Monchengladbach teammate Tim Kleindienst has been left impressed by the Bosnia international, lauding him as "amazing" earlier this season, and he would be a low-cost addition to Farke's squad.

Hoffenheim's asking price for Tabakovic

Signing the centre-forward could be a no-brainer for Leeds, given that he is set to be available for just €5m (£4m), which would be an affordable fee, and he has been clinical throughout his career, also bagging 21 goals in 42 games for Austria Vienna.

However, Leeds' number one priority right now is to retain their Premier League status, and picking up at least a point tonight would be fantastic, ahead of the potentially crucial trip to north London to take on Tottenham Hotspur next month.
