Leeds United travel to Old Trafford on Monday evening to face Manchester United as they look to bolster their hopes of remaining in the Premier League.

Six players are expected to miss the fixture in all, with Daniel Farke and Michael Carrick both needing to navigate their respective injury concerns.

Anton Stach is 'definitely' ruled out of the clash against the Red Devils after sustaining a knock in the FA Cup. Joe Rodon is similarly sidelined with an ankle ligament injury and, along with Stach, is not anticipated to return until May.

Farke was forced to defend his team selection, following the injuries suffered against West Ham. “You could always argue [there is] additional load or whatever in a cup game, perhaps an injury for example but, you know, it is football. Of course you can always say, without load, there is no injury.

“I could say, listen, we don't train anymore and then I have no player injured. But it doesn't work in this way. It's more like you have to make sure that the players are in a good shape and sharp and ready. They are athletes."

Dan James is also unavailable after suffering an adductor strain ahead of Leeds' victory over the Irons last weekend. Nevertheless, Farke has cautious optimism regarding three other members of his squad.

Noah Okafor, Jaka Bijol and Gabriel Gudmundsson are all in contention to return to action, although the first two had yet to rejoin full team training when Farke addressed the media.

It has been more than three weeks since Manchester United last took to the pitch, when they drew with Bournemouth, but Carrick still finds himself without Matthijs de Ligt in his defensive line. The Dutch centre-back has been sidelined since November and continued his recovery during the club's break from Premier League action.

Carrick will also be deprived of Harry Maguire following his suspension after receiving a red card against the Cherries. He was dismissed in the 78th minute at the Vitality Stadium for bringing down Evanilson, with the Cherries drawing level from the resulting penalty.

Maguire was charged with improper conduct by the FA, with the defender aggrieved that a penalty was given. "So soft but that's where football is at atm and I should know better," the former Leicester star posted on Instagram.

Patrick Dorgu was part of United's Dublin training camp but remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury. Lisandro Martinez, sidelined since February, is in the frame to feature once again.

Addressing Martinez in his pre-match press conference, Carrick said: "It's just that call that we make. We wouldn't be pushed into anything. I think it's important that the boys are ready.

"It's as important as the next game always is, being the most important is the bigger picture. So that's a decision that we'll take.
