Liverpool have "world-class" star down as their "dream" signing this summer - journalist

Liverpool still view Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise as their “dream” signing in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Reds continue to be linked with exciting wingers, as they look to plan for life without the legendary Mohamed Salah beyond this season.

A recent report from The Daily Mail has named seven wide players who the Reds are believed to be looking at, including RB Leipzig youngster Yan Diomande and Newcastle United ace Anthony Gordon.

For many Liverpool fans, though, Olise would be the perfect replacement for Salah, with O’Rourke claiming as much to Football Insider, but admitting that it is unlikely to happen:

“Obviously, he would be the dream signing to replace Mohamed Salah when he leaves at the end of the season. He’s somebody they are still keen on because of the quality he has at his disposal. But it’s near impossible that Liverpool could lure Michael Olise away from Bayern Munich.

“He’s under contract until 2029 and playing some outstanding football. It was a world-class performance against Real Madrid in midweek. For Liverpool, it’s a bit of a pipe dream for them to sign Michael Olise due to Bayern’s unwillingness to sell him.”

Michael Olise a potential game-changing signing for Liverpool

It is easy to see why Liverpool would love to bring in Olise from Bayern at the end of the campaign, with the Frenchman a wonderfully gifted footballer who is having a season to treasure.

The 24-year-old has 30 goal contributions in the Bundesliga in 2025/26, 18 of which have been assists, and he has also three and six in the Champions League, respectively.

But as O’Rourke alludes to, Liverpool may have to see Olise as nothing more than a pipe dream, with Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness shooting down talk of an exit to the Reds recently, saying:

“Liverpool have already spent €500 million this year and are having a very poor season. We won’t contribute to them playing better next year.”

Should the situation change, Liverpool must be willing to go all in on Olise, but it feels like a different option will need to be targeted instead.
