Liverpool have been put through their paces ahead of the crunch Champions League encounter against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Reds head into the quarter-final second leg trailing 2-0 on aggregate after last week’s defeat in the French capital. It means that Liverpool need to pull off the latest miracle in their rich European history. Should Arne Slot’s side come from behind and dump out the current holders, it will be a win that goes down alongside the likes of Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and St Etienne in the Anfield annals.
Liverpool earned a 2-0 win over Fulham in th Premier League last weekend. Curtis Jones was forced off at half-time because of a groin injury, with head coach Slot casting doubt over the midfielder’s availability against PSG. However, Jones was part of today’s open training session in Kirkby and he could be in the squad.
Alisson Becker (hamstring) remains unavailable along with Wataru Endo (ankle), Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni (both knee), Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns (both hamstring).
As the players headed out at AXA Training Centre, the under-21s also made their way for a session of their own. Sighted in the background was James McConnell, who returned to Liverpool in January after spending the first half of the season on loan at Ajax. Injury meant the midfielder’s spell at the Dutch giants was cut short and he made his return for the under-21s in a loss to PSG last week.
Liverpool boss Slot has decisions when it comes to his team selection, especially with Rio Ngumoha. The 17-year-old opened the scoring with a magnificent goal against Fulham and plenty of fans would like to see him start against PSG. However, Slot has to weigh up whether Ngumoha would be ready to feature from the outset against arguably the best team in Europe.
Slot will address the media this afternoon (3.30pm BST) along with Dominik Szoboszlai.
