Fabrizio Romano has once again confirmed that Liverpool contract negotiations with Ibrahima Konate are progressing towards a happy ending.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “After long negotiations, after many months spent in contact, what I can tell you today is that these negotiations between Liverpool management and Ibrahima Konate, the player and his camp, are moving to the final stages.
“The salary is almost agreed, the length of the contract is being discussed. So that’s the point, the number of years. There are some clauses to clarify, but Konate and Liverpool are almost there in negotiations over new contract.
“Again, let’s wait for these final stages. Let’s be careful until the end. But despite many reports saying that Real Madrid were back in talks to sign Ibrahima Konate in the summer, despite reports saying that Ibrahima Konate wanted to go elsewhere, at the moment, the club absolutely leading the race to have Ibrahima Konate and his services for next season is again Liverpool.”
This report, however, comes into conflict with claims from David Ornstein over the weekend.
Ornstein said on NBC Sports: “Ibrahima Konate will be out of contract this summer and my latest information is that his situation is at an impasse.”

So, what’s the truth of the matter?
While only time will truly tell whether or not Liverpool and Konate will recommit themselves to each other, Ornstein is a reliable reporter, but he is the only reporter in the last week to report that the two parties are not close to an agreement.
Romano has reported multiple times that an agreement is close, while David Lynch, a journalist with very close ties to Anfield, also suggests that a deal is advacing towards an agreement after 18 months of negotiations.
TEAMtalk reported at the start of last week that “Konate’s camp has reached broad agreement on a new long-term contract at Anfield.”
Hopefully, the truth of the matter will be made clear soon because fans have been subjected to constantly changing reports on Konate’s future for over a year and a half.
While Real Madrid no longer appear to be interested in signing him, Konate’s £150,000 per week contract expires on 30 June 2026.
At the very least, fans will learn about Konate’s fate in less than two months.
