'Can't believe it': West Ham fans will love Premier League legends' Tottenham relegation verdict

West Ham have started a week outside of the Premier League relegation zone for the first time in many months.

The Hammers’ impressive 4-0 victory over Wolves on Friday saw them overtake rivals Tottenham by two points.

Spurs failed to respond against Sunderland on Sunday, losing 1-0 in new manager Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge.

Premier League legends Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have since given an exciting verdict on the relegation battle.

Assuming West Ham stay up, would you rather see Arsenal bottle the league or Tottenham go down? 🤔

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher worry for Spurs in relegation battle

Neville expected more from Tottenham after seeing De Zerbi’s attacking team selection against Sunderland.

However, Spurs could not break the deadlock at the Stadium of Light and fell deeper into relegation danger with another lacklustre performance.

Neville has now lost all confidence that Spurs will escape the bottom three in the remaining six games of the season.

“The Spurs question is as interesting as the title race,” he said. “Can they go down? Will they go down? They would be the biggest club to ever go down in Premier League history…

“They’ve obviously lost at Sunderland. They have big matches to come. The unthinkable could happen. It could.

“I’m not sitting here with any confidence whatsoever that they’ll get out of it. There will be no confidence whatsoever… Everyone knows they’re in massive trouble.”

Meanwhile, fellow Sky Sports pundit Carragher gave a more critical assessment of Tottenham’s woes after the Sunderland game.

The Liverpool icon said there is “no chance” he would expect Spurs to beat Wolves, as West Ham did last weekend.

“I can’t believe it. Tottenham look like they’re going to go down,” Carragher explained. “The other [relegation-threatened] teams have something going for them.”

“You look at fixtures, you think [Wolves are] a good game for Tottenham. But they’re awful. Tottenham’s a good game for them.

Sorry Pablo, but this team (if fit) are beating Wolves 👍

Any changes?

“Wolves are at the bottom of the league. Do you think Tottenham will go there and win? No chance.”

Having failed to win a single league game in 2026, Carragher’s “awful” description of Tottenham’s situation is completely fair.

West Ham supporters can only hope that Spurs’ struggles continue when they face Brighton on Saturday.
