'Like him a lot': West Ham handed boost as Man Utd target Mateus Fernandes alternative

West Ham will find it difficult to keep hold of Mateus Fernandes this summer amid interest from several top teams.

Premier League clubs Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City are all reportedly in the race to sign Fernandes.

Man Utd are considered to be in pole position, as they look to completely rebuild their midfield in the next transfer window.

However, a recent report suggests the Red Devils may have turned their attention to another Premier League star.

Man Utd could sign Alex Scott instead of West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes

Man Utd are looking to sign a replacement for Casemiro, as he will leave at the end of his contract this summer.

Elliott Anderson and Adam Wharton have both been linked with a move there, but Fernandes appeared to be high on the list.

The Portugal international has an existing relationship with Bruno Fernandes, who would welcome him to Old Trafford.

However, the Red Devils have now been linked with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott after his performance against Arsenal on Saturday.

Scott scored the winning goal as the Cherries beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, damaging their title hopes.

After the match, a Tottenham supporter suggested on social media that they should sign Scott if they stay in the Premier League.

Transfer insider Paul O Keefe then revealed that Man Utd are more likely to complete a deal for the Englishman.

O Keefe posted on X that United like the Bournemouth star “a lot” ahead of the summer transfer window.

If Michael Carrick’s side were to pursue a move for Scott, that would surely spell good news for the Hammers.

It seems unlikely that United would spend upwards of £50 million on two similar players, with other issues that need addressing.

This could just open the door for Liverpool or Man City to sign Fernandes instead, but they have not been so heavily linked.
