Dominik Szoboszlai apologises for Man City fan incident: “A misunderstanding”

Dominik Szoboszlai addressed his gestures towards the away end after the defeat at Man City, apologising and calling it a “misunderstanding.”

After Liverpool fell to a miserable 4-0 defeat at Man City in the FA Cup, Szoboszlai was filmed gesticulating towards the away end, shrugging his shoulders and seemingly asking for more.

It received the ire of fans after he and Virgil van Dijk later conceded the team did not show enough fighting spirit, the bare minimum in a Liverpool shirt.

Speaking ahead of PSG’s visit in the Champions League, the subject was always bound to come up, and the Hungarian insisted he did not “mean it in a bad way.”

“Maybe it was a misunderstanding between me and the fans, I didn’t mean it in a bad way,” he told reporters.

“Obviously, I know what the fans means for this club, and what this club means for the fans. As well as a player, we do everything for them as well, as we do for us.

“So if it was a misunderstanding, then I apologise.

“They can also feel that I’m not feeling better than them, I’m feeling the exact same way they do.

“And to make it clear that I’m with them, and we are with them, and hopefully they are with us as well.”

Dominik Szoboszlai ready to leave it all on the pitch vs. PSG

He was then asked if he had a message for the supporters, and Szoboszlai was strong in his response, vowing that he would leave it all out on the pitch in a bid to qualify for the semi-final.

“We’re going to go all in, we’re going to give our best from minute one until minute, hopefully, 90, because it can be enough, but maybe if it goes even more, 120 or 125,” he said.

“I’m ready to die on the pitch tomorrow. I think I can speak for all the players, because we want it so bad.

“We worked for it so badly, and in one game everything can happen at Anfield.”

It comes after Virgil van Dijk called for a “memorable night” if Liverpool are to overturn the two-goal deficit against PSG.
