Key man explains why Aston Villa can have no tiredness complaints

Club are chasing glory on two fronts over the season’s final six weeks.

Matty Cash has warned Villa have no excuse for tiredness as they chase a fantastic finish to the season.

Unai Emery’s men return to Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday to begin preparations for the next big match of the run-in - Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Bologna.

Villa hold a 3-1 lead from last week’s first leg as they look to reach a European semi-final for the second time in three seasons.

Emery’s team are also fighting for a top-five Premier League finish during what promises to be a hectic climax to the campaign.

Victory on Thursday would guarantee Villa play at least 55 matches for the third straight year but Cash says players must block out any feelings of fatigue.

He said: “This part of the season, when you’re fighting for such a big achievement, we’ve got such important games, you haven’t got time to think and to have excuses for feeling leggy.

“Obviously, we’re human, we’re going to be tired, but we’ve got such a big goal to achieve, so (we’re) trying to not let that get in the way.”

Villa’s next Premier League match is at home to Sunderland on Sunday. They currently sit fourth in the table, seven points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea.

Cash said: “We’ve got a lot of teams around that are in good form, fantastic players, big budgets, so it’s going to be a fight right until the end.

“You’ve got the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United all fighting for it, so we’re going to obviously stay focused, go right to the wire, keep picking up as many points as we can, and see where it leaves us.”
