Liverpool host Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals as Arne Slot‘s side seek to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.

Champions League Quarter-Final (2nd leg) | Anfield

April 14, 2026 | 8pm (BST)

Following three consecutive defeats, Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Fulham was a timely reminder that there is still quality in the Reds’ ranks despite their inconsistency this season.

We go into the second leg against PSG more in hope than expectation, but Anfield is a place where the irrational can become rational.

While the odds are against Liverpool, the tie is still alive and supporters will be right behind the team come kick-off.

What happened in the first leg?

Liverpool were taught a lesson at the Parc des Princes last Wednesday.

Slot set his side up with a back three, using Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong as wing-backs. Unfortunately, the new formation didn’t help and the Reds were lucky PSG only won 2-0 in the end.

We don’t expect to see that experiment repeated and Liverpool will almost certainly provide more threat at home than the 0.17 xG they managed in Paris.

However, simultaneously keeping PSG’s gifted attackers at bay is the greatest barrier to reaching the semi-finals.

Liverpool team news as Curtis Jones trains

Despite leaving the pitch injured against Fulham, Curtis Jones trained with the team on Monday afternoon as the Reds prepared.

While he was running around as normal with the squad, we wouldn’t expect him to start against PSG, with Slot telling Sky Sports on Saturday evening: “He felt a little bit, I think it’s groin, you say over here.

“It wasn’t [injured in] the moment, he felt it already for a few minutes. So let’s hope for the best, but I would be surprised if a player comes off that he’s available for Tuesday.”

Liverpool starting XI prediction

We think there could be as many as five changes to Slot’s starting XI from the team that beat Fulham 2-0, with his selection predicted largely based on who was rested at the weekend.

Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Milos Kerkez were all on the bench, so each should regain their place in the side against PSG.

At right-back, Joe Gomez could also come in as Frimpong is unlikely to start two matches in a row due to his injury problems this season.

Predicted LFC XI: Mamardashvili; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Wirtz; Ekitike

PSG had the weekend off

PSG were given the weekend off from domestic action, meaning they have had the full six days since the first leg to recover and prepare for their trip to Anfield.

The Ligue 1 leaders were scheduled to play second-place Lens, but the Ligue de Football Professionnel rearranged the match, citing “the board of directors’ clear strategic aim of enabling France to retain its fifth place in the UEFA coefficient rankings, which secures four places in the Champions League.”

Lens were against the rescheduling of the match as they are only four points behind PSG, but their protestations were ignored.

Bradley Barcola back in the PSG squad

Thanks to the break between games, it has allowed Bradley Barcola to regain enough fitness to join the squad to face Liverpool.

The 23-year-old winger hasn’t played since their 3-0 win away against Chelsea, almost a month ago, due to an ankle injury.

While Barcola is back in the frame, we would expect him to begin as a substitute, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele starting up front.

Elsewhere, midfielder Fabian Ruiz and young winger Quentin Ndjantou are still absent.

Possible PSG XI: Safonov; Hakimi, Pacho, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes; Joao Neves, Vitinha, Zaire-Emery; Doue, Kvaratskhelia, Dembele

Hillsborough anniversary tributes

While fans’ protests against ticket prices will continue and escalate for the rest of the season unless the club agree to renegotiate, the match against PSG will be an exception.

This is due to it being the closest match to the 37th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster on April 15.

Before kick-off, a mosaic in tribute to the 97 people who died will be raised on the Kop, while flags and banners commemorating the disaster’s victims will be flown.

A tough semi-final opponent awaits the winners

The winners of this tie will face Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the semi-final.

Bayern hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg played at the Bernabeu, while Arsenal and Atletico were the first-leg victors on the other side of the draw.

The Gunners and Atletico both won away from home with 1-0 and 2-0 wins respectively, putting them in a strong position for the return legs.

Who is the referee for Liverpool vs. PSG?

There is an all-Italian officiating team in place, with Maurizio Mariani the referee for Liverpool vs. PSG.

Mariani’s only game in charge of the Reds in September as Slot’s team beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 at Anfield.

He will be assisted on the touchlines by Daniele Bindoni and Alberto Tegoni, while Matteo Marchetti will act as fourth official.

Marco Di Bello will be the video assistant referee for this one, while Aleandro Di Paolo is on assistant VAR duties.
