West Ham loanee helps tee up two goals to help ease relegation fears for his club

A defeat would really have ramped up the pressure on the club, who hadn’t won in three games prior to Sunday’s clash.

Thanks to West Ham-owned Marshall’s help, however, Bochum now sit tenth in the table with only five games left this season.

Introduced with less than half an hour to play, the 21-year-old actually ended up playing a reasonably big role.

Bochum were 2-0 up by the time he entered the field of play and one of his first touches was to tee up teammate Farid Alfa-Ruprecht for their third goal.

Braunschweig pulled one back shortly after but Marshall ended up winning a late penalty, which was scored by Philipp Hofmann to secure a vital three points.

Marshall has impressed for Bochum this season, scoring twice in five league starts.

His latest outing saw him record his first assists of the season and it remains to be seen if that is enough for him to force his way into the starting lineup on a more regular basis.

Either way, Marshall’s long-term future at West Ham is unclear.

It does seem incredibly unlikely that he has a future in the first team, with no disrespect intended.

With that in mind, making a success of his loan move would be beneficial for all involved.

Quite whether Bochum have the funds to sign him permanently is up for debate, though the Northern Ireland international could certainly do with putting himself in the shop window before now and the end of the season.
