Dominik Szoboszlai has apologised to Liverpool fans after getting riled up by their reaction to the recent thrashing by Manchester City. Liverpool were dumped out of the FA Cup in a 4-0 hammering by City on April 4 - and Szoboszlai's behaviour post-match sparked a backlash among fans.
There were 8,000 Liverpool fans in attendance at the Etihad Stadium to witness Erling Haaland's hat-trick in a thoroughly dispiriting performance for the away side. Mo Salah's missed penalty added to the misery for Reds supporters, who made their feelings clear after the full-time whistle.
Those who had stayed behind could be heard booing Arne Slot's side, much to the frustration of Szoboszlai. The midfielder was seen remonstrating with the away fans by waving his arms and shrugging his shoulders before being pulled away by Federico Chiesa.
His actions didn't go down well on social media, where some labelled him "arrogant" for supposedly believing he is above criticism. But speaking in a press conference ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, Szoboszlai attempted to clear the air.
"To make it clear it was a misunderstanding with me and the fans, I didn't mean it in a bad way," he said when asked if he had a message for fans. "I know what the fans mean to this club.
"As a player we do everything for them and us. If it was a misunderstanding then I apologise, they can feel also that I am not feeling better than them, exactly the same as they do. I am with them and we are with them, hopefully they are with us as well."
Liverpool picked up a 2-0 win over Fulham in front of their home fans on Saturday and now need to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg against PSG in Paris. The Fulham game saw supporters protest against plans to increase ticket prices, but Szoboszlai has called upon fans to do their bit on Tuesday night.

"Anfield is going to make a big impact tomorrow," he said. "We saw it many times this and last season for sure, it's going to be not only 11 and subs, it's the whole stadium and we know how it feels to be at LFC with these fans at Anfield. We don't need any more motivation."
The Hungary international has promised a different game after a placid Liverpool played a five-man backline and barely laid a punch on PSG in the first leg.
"We can talk tactics but I won't open it up publicly but it will be a different game for sure, we will do different things and we saw what they did in the first game, so we will manage it and need to go all in and give everything that is possible," he said.
"If you can say you gave everything and we didn't go through, you can still keep your chin up and say we tried it. But everyone knows what we have to do and I surely believe there is a big opportunity tomorrow."
