The stats experts at Opta have had their say on where Sunderland will finish in the Premier League this season.
Sunderland have built up some serious momentum ahead of the final month of the Premier League season.
The overwhelming positivity caused by their historic Tyne-Wear derby win at Newcastle United prior to the final international break of the season continued into Sunday’s home victory against relegation threatened Tottenham Hotspur as a Nordi Mukiele goal separated the two sides at the Stadium of Light. That means Sunderland have now won three of their last four games and they will be full of confidence as they turn their attentions towards next Sunday’s visit to Champions League contenders Aston Villa.
The Black Cats have European ambitions of their own after Sunday’s win against Spurs moved them to within one point of seventh placed Brentford and they are just six points adrift of the Champions League places. There are still some major challenges for Regis Le Bris and his players to over with the visit to Villa Park followed by home games with Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Chelsea and away days at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton.
But there is no doubt the Black Cats are firmly in the race for Europe and have a chance to cap a memorable season in style. So where are Sunderland predicted to finish in this season’s Premier League table? We take a look at the latest predicted table with the help of stats from the experts at Opta.
