Anthony Gordon has established himself as one of the most effective wingers in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United from Everton. His tireless running and consistent goal contributions have made him a fan favourite at St James’ Park.
However, interest from top European clubs could test Newcastle’s resolve. Any potential deal could also be influenced by Newcastle’s need to manage their finances in line with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which have previously shaped their transfer decisions.
Newcastle have already had to operate within tight financial constraints, and a significant offer for Gordon could be difficult to reject if they need to balance the books.
The club were previously open to a sale to help meet PSR requirements, but a move collapsed after Liverpool failed to match the £80million valuation in the summer of 2024.
DAVEOCKOP later reported that Liverpool maintained active contact with Gordon’s representatives after that window, with the Englishman’s long-standing friendship with Curtis Jones helping to keep the Anfield link alive.
Arsenal are now said to be interested in signing Gordon this summer, but they could face stiff competition from Bayern Munich. According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Newcastle winger is Bayern’s “preferred candidate” as they look to strengthen their left-wing options.
Plettenberg also reports that the Bundesliga champions have already held talks regarding Gordon, although no discussions have yet taken place with Newcastle United.
He posted on X: “FC Bayern are seriously considering a move for Anthony #Gordon. The 25 y/o is currently the preferred candidate for the left wing as a back-up and competitor for Luis Díaz.
“Gordon has been informed. Concrete talks have already taken place, though the clubs are not yet in contact. #NUFC want to keep him.”
Gordon is currently under contract with Newcastle United until 2030, with no release clause included in the deal. Any potential transfer fee is expected to be in the region of €60million.
Bayern are actively seeking a high-quality, versatile attacker who can operate mainly on the left flank while also providing flexibility across the front line, a profile Gordon is believed to match.
Gordon has scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 46 appearances for Eddie Howe’s in all competitions this season.
Last summer, Bayern signed Luis Díaz from Liverpool, with the Colombian recently stating he made the right decision to join the Bundesliga giants.
The forward has been in excellent form, registering 23 goals and 18 assists in 41 appearances since arriving at the Allianz Arena in July. Diaz scored Bayern’s opening goal in their 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg last Tuesday.
Díaz arrived at Anfield from Porto in January 2022 and went on to score 41 goals in 148 appearances, including 13 as the Reds won the Premier League title last season.
The 29-year-old also won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup twice with the club and was part of the side that reached the Champions League final in 2022.
