Manchester United player ratings: Two 3/10s 'well off the pace' and three 4/10s struggle in…

Lisandro Martinez and Manuel Ugarte both really struggled as Manchester United were beaten 2-1 by Leeds in the Premier League. Michael Carrick made four changes to his starting line up for the match, with Lisandro Martinez back from a recent calf injury, while Kobbie Mainoo missed out after a minor setback.

United started slowly and fell behind when Noah Okafor fired in from close range after some poor defending from Manuel Ugarte and Leny Yoro. The home side never looked like finding a leveller and fell two goals down when a deflected Okafor volley found the back of the net after some more abject defending. Leeds almost added a third on the stroke of half-time but Martinez was on hand to deny Ao Tanaka on the goal line.

United started better after the break and wasted an excellent opportunity to score when Benjamin Sesko fired straight at Karl Darlow. Any chance of a comeback soon appeared thwarted when Martinez was shown a straight red card after he was judged to have pulled Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair.

It was United who responded the best, though. Leeds were wasteful with their chances on the break and soon saw their lead cut in half when Casemiro headed in at the back post after an excellent ball from Bruno Fernandes. Sesko and Casemiro both went close to an equaliser with further headed efforts, but there was no way through for the 10 men.

Here is how we rated United after the home defeat to Leeds.

A great stop to deny Calvert-Lewin early on. Nothing he could do about either goal after that. A few uncharacteristic poor passes from the back. Kept United in during the second half.

He was beaten too easily on the right flank throughout. A really poor performance and looked off the pace as a right-back.

2. Noussair Mazraoui - 4

His weak defensive header was punished as Leeds took an early lead. His lack of physicality was a problem, but he got better as it went on.

3. Leny Yoro - 4

He was off the pace from the start and defended poorly for the second goal. He didn't look fit to start, but made a huge recovery tackle to deny a third. A harsh red card for pulling Calvert-Lewin's hair.
