Manchester United’s return to Premier League action ended in a whimper with a loss at home against rivals Leeds United.
The expectedly rusty version showed up for Man Utd as Leeds took control and rattled them early on for a lead in the 5th minute to stun Old Trafford.
Things got worse for United as Okafor scored his and Leeds’ second in the first half. Man Utd fans booed at half-time, and Lisandro Martinez’s sending off in the second half ended the game as a contest.
Casemiro’s goal via Fernandes’ assist revived the game, but there were no more goals despite a valiant effort from ten-man United late on.

DEFEAT to Leeds – What is your INSTANT REACTION?

Senne Lammens – 6
Some nice saves to keep United in the game but nervy distribution was a step back.
Noussair Mazraoui – 3
Physically overwhelmed with alarming ease, especially in his own half due to Leeds’ press.
Leny Yoro – 4
Leeds’ attackers gave him the runaround, and he looked awed by the intensity.

Lisandro Martinez – 3
A goalline clearance saves his rating because he wasn’t much better than Yoro. Puzzlingly sent off.
Luke Shaw – 4
No dynamism in attack, no intensity while defending. Slightly improved in second half but not enough.
Manuel Ugarte – 2
Zero progressive passing, lacking in duels, struggling with confidence, and failing in pretty much every department otherwise. This game seals his fate at United if it wasn’t already.
Casemiro – 6
Caught on the ball a few times as he was caught off guard by Leeds. Tried to get forward and got his goal.
Amad – 6
Source of the odd threat with his direct dribbling. No end product.
Bruno Fernandes – 6
Looked almost too eager to chase assists with audacious passes that weren’t always on. Gave Utd hope with his customary Casemiro assist and threatened a late comeback playing deeper.
Matheus Cunha – 4
Booked for diving in the first half. Went on some dribbles but it was always going to fail with no overlap from Shaw.
Benjamin Sesko – 3
His name rarely came up in commentary during the game. Missed a glorious chance when it did.
Substitutes
Bryan Mbeumo – 6
Provided a much-needed outlet late on as Fernandes played quarterback.
Diogo Dalot – 6
Clear upgrade on Mazraoui with his overlapping runs and defensive effort.
