Daniel Farke hails Leeds’ first win at Old Trafford since 1981 as a massive step towards Premier League survival after a dramatic 2-1 victory.
MANCHESTER: Daniel Farke hailed a historic and vital 2-1 victory for Leeds United at Manchester United as a “big step forward” in their fight for Premier League survival.
Leeds secured their first league win at Old Trafford since 1981 thanks to a first-half double from Noah Okafor.
The visitors survived a frantic finale after Casemiro’s header and two late goal-line clearances to claim a first league win over United since 2002.
The triumph lifts Leeds six points clear of the relegation zone with six games remaining.
“Proud of the boys. Fantastic performance,” Farke said after the match.
He praised his team’s composure during the crucial period, stating it was important to keep nerves in check and stick to their plan.
Farke believed his side should have led by more than 2-0 at halftime after missing numerous chances.
He acknowledged the difficulty of closing out such a game against a top side packed with quality players.
“This team has performed over the whole season with unbelievable consistency,” Farke added.
He described the historic win as amazing and a significant boost for both team morale and their league position.
The victory ended a run of six league games without a win for the newly-promoted side.
Leeds also have an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley to look forward to later this month.
Farke urged his team to stay humble despite the landmark result, acknowledging they are not yet the finished product.
“We are on a good path, on the way to achieving something really positive this season,” he concluded.
